Guocoland names Abdullah Bin Tarmugi as Director

Mr Abdullah is also a director of The Islamic Bank of Asia and Devotion Energy Group Limited.

GuocoLand Limited ("GLL") is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Abdullah Bin Tarmugi as non-executive independent director of the Company with effect from 1 March 2012.

Mr Abdullah is a member of the Presidential Council for Minority Rights and was the Speaker of Parliament from March 2002 to October 2011.

Mr Abdullah started his career in 1970 in the Ministry of National Development, working as an urban sociologist until 1977 and thereafter as a senior statistician and planning analyst until 1980. He subsequently joined The Straits Times as a feature writer and associate news editor until 1984. From 1984 to 1993, he was the research manager of Singapore Press Holdings Ltd.

Mr Abdullah has been the Member of Parliament for Siglap (now within the East Coast Group Representatives Constituency) from 1984 to 2011. He held various ministerial positions in the Ministry of Environment, Ministry of Home Affairs and Ministry of Community Development and Sports from 1993 to 2002.

Mr Abdullah graduated in 1969 from the University of Singapore (now known as the National University of Singapore) with an Honours Degree in Social Science. He also holds a Postgraduate Diploma (Merit) in Urban Studies from the University of London under the Commonwealth Scholarship in 1972, according to a Guocoland report.

Mr Abdullah is also an independent director of The Islamic Bank of Asia, a subsidiary of DBS Bank, and Devotion Energy Group Limited, which is listed on the main board of SGX.
