Singapore's REIT sector is the sixth largest globally

It has a market cap of US$53b.

Ever since the launch of the first Singapore REIT in 2002, the sector has grown to be sixth largest market globally with a market cap of US$53b, wealth manager Q Investment Partners revealed.

According to its investment report, UK's REITs have the largest market cap of $3.4t, comprising 6.3% of the overall market.

There are 37 S-REITs are listed so far on the Singapore Exchange (SGX), four times larger than Hong Kong's. After Japan and Australia, Singapore now has the third largest REIT market in Asia.

More than two-thirds of Singapore REITs hold foreign properties, and 10 of the 32 Singapore REITs have portfolios that comprise entirely foreign properties.

Singapore was one of the top investors in purpose built student accommodation (PBSA), with sovereign wealth fund GIC taking the top spot, and Mapletree Investments taking the third spot.
