Savills tapped as consultant project manager for Geylang Serai Cultural Belt

The construction will begin in the second quarter (Q2) of 2023.

Property firm, Savills Singapore, was appointed as consultant project manager for the restoration of the Geylang Serai Cultural Belt.

In a statement, Savills said it will help maintain the project’s goal to revitalise the belt into a cultural destination without impacting the community during the construction. Savills also partnered with BDP Architectural Services for this construction project.

The commissioned project to develop the design and spearhead implementation will be done along with the People's Association, Housing Board, National Environment Agency, and the Land Transport Authority.

The project will also improve Geylang Serai Market, Joo Chiat Complex, and build the iconic arch stationed at the corner of market and Tristar Inn.

The project will also create new bicycle parking areas, shared pathways for walking and cycling, resting benches, new designated wheelchair pick-up areas, a new canopy at the entrance of Joo Chiat Complex, a pavilion, resting areas with benches, a sheltered linkway to the bus stop, ramps, bicycle racks, and a children's play area.

Construction period will start in Q2 2023 and is expected to end by the following year. 

“The design is inspired from elements of the Malay community’s everyday culture and are interpreted into a palette of urban design apparatus and principles – from the living room as the central communal space of the Malay kampong home to the festive garment and textile of Kain Songket that is worn for festive celebrations,” BDP Architects Architect Director Alexander Chng said.
