MND unveils GLS sites for hotel and commercial uses

The Marina View site can yield about 2,000 sqm of commercial space and 540 hotel rooms.

The Ministry of National Development (MND) revealed new sites under the H1 2019 Government Land Sales Programme (GLS) for hotel and commercial purposes.

Although all the Confirmed List for H1 2019 are residential sites, some sites have an allotment for commercial space. Said sites include those located in Tan Quee Lan Street and Bernam Street with an estimated commercial space of 2,000 sqm each.

Meanwhile, under the Reserve List, two white sites are included, or those where a range of use is allowable depending on how much minimum space the government could allow to meet planning intentions. The site in Marina View has about 2,000 sqm of commercial space and could yield about 540 hotel rooms whilst the one in Woodlands Avenue is much bigger as its commercial space is about 78,000 sqm.

“This [Woodlands Avenue site] will help to sustain the development momentum of Woodlands Regional Centre as a major commercial node outside the city, in line with the Government’s objective of bringing job opportunities closer to homes,” MND said.

In total, the Reserve List and Confirmed List include about 86,000 sqm of commercial space and could yield around 1,115 hotel rooms.

The Reserve List also includes one hotel site located in Sims Avenue which could yield up to 575 rooms and an area of 2,000 sqm for commercial purposes.
