12-hectare Bukit Canberra to open in 2020

It is expected to have a polyclinic, sports centre, and a hawker centre.

The construction of Bukit Canberra is expected to create a 12-hectare hub that will open in phases, starting the first half of 2020, Sport Singapore said (SportSG).

Bukit Canberra will have facilities by SportSG, Ministry of Health (MOH), National Healthcare Group Polyclinics (NHGP), National Environment Agency (NEA), and National Parks Board (NParks), as well as inputs from National Heritage Board (NHB).

SportSG shared other plans for the site including an ActiveSG Sembawang Sport Centre, which will have sheltered swimming pools and an indoor sport hall with a 500-seat gallery for sports. A gym is expected to span across 1,500 sqm.

Bukit Canberra will also have a polyclinic that will offer a range of medical services, including treatment for acute and chronic diseases, women’s health services, and child health services.

A senior care centre will provide a range of health and social care services for seniors, including day care and rehabilitation services, as well as home-based care services to frail and elderly residents living in the area.

The hub will also have a hawker centre that will feature over 40 stalls and more than 700 seats. “Residents can look forward to enjoying affordable hawker fare in a park-like environment, as eating spaces are organised to incorporate views of lush greenery,” Sports Singapore said.

Education minister and adviser to Sembawang GRC Grassroots Organisations Ong Ye Kung noted that Sembawang residents’ general consensus was to conserve the space’s greenery as much as possible.
