A peek inside Comms Equipments' contemporary black and white office

Singapore Business Review talked to Ray Sim, head for commercial department at 2form, the interior design firm that handled the Comms Equipment project.

SBR: Who was the client? What were the needs/requests of the client for their office space?
Ray: Our client, Comms Equipments, is a local leading telecommunication company. The floor area is approx. around 3000sqft. Basically, they require a boardroom, storeroom, stationary room, filing room, server room, 2 directors & 1 manager room & 12 workstation.

There were very specific instructions such as the storeroom must be near to one of the director's room, position of storeroom door etc. Theme preference: Black & white

SBR: What is significant/unique about this project/design?
Ray: The theme is contemporary using monochromatic colour schemes. Unlike most conventional offices, black tinted glass partitions are used to give the office a modern touch.

The boardroom floor carpet is intentionally laid in deep violet colour whereas the rest of the flooring is in grey. White spray painted timber strips are cladded to create a 3 dimensional feature wall at the back of the top hung cabinet.

A shade of dark grey is painted on one side of the wall to create an accent wall at the main workstation area.

SBR: Please give us a brief description of the space after the refurbishments.
Ray: Comfortable, functional & professional are the 3 essential objectives we endeavour right from the beginning when we took up the project. We have since received many compliments from our clients on their suppliers, staffs, visitors feedback that they really like the office design.

SBR: Tell us about the firm or the team who worked on this project.
Ray: 2form is an ID firm with 2 specialty arms. Residential & Commercial (focusing mainly on office & retail space only). Our commercial team is led by Ray Sim who was also the ID for the project.
