The Hub Singapore launches a new industrial-chic coworking space

It has an in-house cafe, hot showers and even a nap room.

Reflecting the vibrancy and character of Prinsep Street, The Hub Singapore opens its new coworking space with an edgy, colourful and homely vibe. Once a Chinese restaurant, the space is now converted into stylish work spaces and communal zones to foster interaction and collaboration among community members.

The Hub wanted to create an inspiring work environment that brings entrepreneurs, creatives and techies together. They worked with one of the premier design agencies, greymatters, to help their vision bring it to life. So whether you aim to grow an existing company or jumpstart your innovative idea, the new space offers both a "quiet zone" with permanent desks for those who wish to focus in silence as well as an "open zone," where you can work while soaking up the buzz and energy from those around you.

The new coworking space features up to 160 coworking and permanent desks, 8 team rooms, 6 hi-spec meeting rooms, 3 soundproof Skype booths, and flexible event spaces that can hold up to 200 people. It also has an in-house café, a communal pantry, hot showers and nap room for resting.

According to Grace Sai, CEO and co-founder of The Hub Singapore, they wanted to provide startups with the best Wi-Fi, coffee and business facilities but have purposely kept the look industrial chic so it’s professional yet friendly.

Grace explained that opening a larger space for the community enables The Hub to not only serve more entrepreneurs from early stage to mature ones, but also allows them to serve them in more ways.

“This new space will see us focusing more on collaborations across the ecosystem, especially with corporates who want to connect with startups, the government, venture capitalists, investors and media partners. It is our firm belief that there is always more innovation outside of one’s team than within. We see the new space supporting our role as the network of networks, creating more visibility of different parties that could and should be working together,” said Grace.

To date, The Hub has launched its Innovation and Impact Lab programs with corporates such as J.P. Morgan, DBS Bank and Procter & Gamble.

As real estate in Singapore is pricey, The Hub surveyed 42 spots and spent almost 1 year before they found the right location. Grace said that startups have very specific needs; they want a central location at a good price with an open layout that fosters communication and collaboration so they prioritized their concerns and focused first on finding the right location. The Hub then chose Prinsep as it is Singapore's upcoming design and creative neighbourhood and just minutes away from the CBD and Orchard Road.
