Sentosa Development Corporation develops platform to facilitate seamless systems integration
Its One Sentosa Platform harnesses advanced microservice technology that streamlines data sharing and brings cost savings.
The management of Sentosa Island necessitates a complex network of interconnecting systems, with operations relying on the coordination of various systems belonging to its partners, each unique in its configuration and purpose.
Amongst these is its ticketing system, which interfaces with gantry systems, ensuring guests' seamless entry onto the island, syncs with financial systems to process transactions, and operates in sync with its website for ticket sales. These intricate connections create a tightly coupled environment, where the systems' interdependence resembles a tangled web.
The challenge arises when any of these systems, as they inevitably age and become obsolete, require replacement. The tightly entwined network complicates the process, causing maintenance, support, and upgrades to become overwhelming tasks.
As such, Sentosa Development Corporation (SDC) has embarked on a transformative journey to respond to such complexities. It has drawn insights from industrial benchmarks and employed continuous improvement methodologies along with DevOps agile concepts and tools to develop the One Sentosa Platform (OSP).
OSP is an innovative application programming interface (API) gateway that serves as a versatile interface facilitating seamless integration amongst diverse systems. It harnesses advanced microservice technologies, ensuring heightened security, speed, flexibility, efficiency, and reusability. This design not only streamlines data sharing, reducing turnaround time and achieving system objectives, but also brings substantial cost savings.
The API gateway also fosters easier collaboration with partners through API versioning and integration, thereby reducing procurement processes and the associated costs. Its cloud-based hosting enables intelligent auto-scaling, optimising resource utilisation and cost efficiency during fluctuations in workload.
Its scalability, facilitated by auto-scaling resources, ensures operational continuity during high workloads, minimising downtime and ensuring seamless change deployment. Its cloud advantage guarantees reliability, redundancy, and agility, with API version control ensuring the reusability of APIs to drive business efficiency.
SDC’s “Island Partner Straight-to-Gate” initiative also utilises OSP, wherein the company seamlessly integrates its e-commerce website with the ticketing systems of the Island Partners. This integration enables online guests to purchase and receive the Island Partner's tickets directly, ensuring a smooth and hassle-free guest experience.
OSP’s impact in making SDC’s operations more efficient has been recognised by the SBR Technology Excellence Awards 2024, as it took home the win in the Connectivity - Hospitality & Leisure category.
“The implementation of OSP represents a paradigm shift in Sentosa's system integration approach. This innovative platform not only addresses the intricate challenges posed by disparate systems but also ensures adaptability, efficiency, and resilience, fostering a more agile and responsive operational framework for Sentosa and its Island Partners," the company said.
