TP-STM win bid for Singapore's fifth desalination plant

The plant is expected to add 30 million gallons of water to the national supply.

The Public Utilities Board (PUB) awarded the Tuas Power - Singapore Technologies Marine Consortium (TP-STM) the contract for its fifth desalination plant on Jurong Island.

According to a press release, TP and STM will form a 60:40 concession company that will enter into a Water Purchase Agreement (WPA) with PUB by October 2017.

The Jurong plant is expected to start operations in 2020 and add 30 million gallons (mgd) of water per day to the national supply.

TP-STM offered the first-year price of 91 cents per cubic meter and won against two other bidders.

The company will supply desalinated water over a 25-year period from 2020 to 2045.

Desalinated water is one of the PUB’s Four National Taps, a long-term water supply strategy.

The other three sources are water from local catchments, imported water from Johor and NEWater.

The third desalination plant in Tuas is set to be complete this year, whilst the fourth in Marina East is set to be finished 2020.
