ST Electronics, DSTA to develop next-generation Earth Observation Satellite

New satellite to stake Singapore’s position in the global space market.

Singapore Technologies Electronics Limited (ST Electronics) has announced a partnership with the Ministry of Defence’s Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA) to build the next generation Earth Observation Satellite, TeLEOS-2. 

With TeLEOS-2, ST Electronics and the DSTA aim to support government agencies such as the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore, Ministry of Home Affairs, Ministry of Defence, Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, and the National Environment Agency for their satellite imagery requirements.

“The development of TeLEOS-2 represents yet another successful milestone for ST Electronics, and signifies our firm commitment to continue the investment and built-up of the Space eco-system in Singapore,” said Ravinder Singh, president of ST Electronics. 

TeLEOS-2 has a mass of about 750 kg and will carry a made-in-Singapore Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) payload capable of providing 1-m resolution data. It will also be equipped with a 500 Giga Bytes onboard recorder for recording captured data and a high-speed 800 Mbps downlink.

Aside from satellite imagery, ST Electronics also aims to enhance its value-added services, which use intelligent big data analytics for applications in urban planning and infrastructure for smart cities, environmental and resources monitoring for sustainability, disaster relief, maritime security, and border and territorial water protection.

ST Electronics has also recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding at the GSTC 2017 with  (CLS), a subsidiary of the French Space Agency (CNES). ST Electronics and CLS aim to jointly develop maritime surveillance services to enhance maritime safety and environmental protection in Asia.
