Singapore to host first-ever World Engineers Summit

Summit to tackle climate change solutions.

Singapore will host the first-ever World Engineers Summit (WES) 2013 from 9th to 15th September at Marina Bay Sands Expo and Convention Centre.

Themed “Innovative and Sustainable Solutions to Climate Change”, the Summit will be held in conjunction with the World Federation of Engineering Organisations (WFEO) General Assembly and committee meetings.

WFEO is an international, non-governmental organisation representing the engineering profession worldwide; it brings together national engineering organisations from over 90 nations and represents some 20 million engineers from around the world.

Furthermore, the Summit will be held alongside two other industry events – Build Eco Xpo (BEX) Asia 2013 and the International Green Building Conference 2013.

Organizers said this convergence of events will allow engineers from multiple disciplines to congregate and share innovative and eco-friendly solutions and best practices drawn from around the world.

Organized by the Institution of Engineers Singapore and managed by Reed Exhibitions, the Summit is expected to draw more than 1,000 attendees, making it the largest international gathering of engineers in the history of Singapore.

Delegates attending WES 2013 can look forward to industry keynotes, panel discussions and over 12 concurrent breakout sessions all aimed at fostering dialogue among industry, academic and government leaders whilst providing insights and analysis on hot topics related to climate change and sustainability.

Luminaries who will be delivering keynote addresses on 11 sectors ranging from governments to corporations to NGOs, and regions from Asia to Europe to Latin America. They include Mr Bindu N Lohani, Vice President, Knowledge Management and Sustainable Development, Asia Development Bank, Dr Noleen Heyzer, Under-Secretary-General of the United Nations and Nobel Peace Prize Nominee, Dr Suzana Kahn-Ribeiro, Green Economy Sub-Secretary, Rio de Janeiro State Secretariat of Environment, Brazil, and Dr Roland Busch, CEO, Infrastructure & Cities Sector, Siemens AG.
