CapitaLand's $4.9 bn Chongqing Skybridge to open in 2019

It will link six towers of Raffles City Chongqing.

The mega sky bridge project of CapitaLand and Ascendas–Singbridge in Chongqing, worth $4.9b, is expected to open in phases next year.

The sky bridge, dubbed The Conservatory, would link six towers of Raffles City Chongqing including four towers at its base and two adjacent towers by cantilever bridges.

The Conservatory, a curved accordion-shaped bridge, sits 400 metres above sea level and measure 300 metres in length, 30 metres in width, and 22.5 metres in height. The 300-metre platform is expected to be completed by mid-year.

“The hoisting of The Conservatory is not only a significant moment for Raffles City Chongqing, it marks a global milestone in the field of architecture and engineering. Some of the world’s most advanced construction and engineering techniques have been deployed to install this megastructure on Chaotianmen, known as the crown jewel of Chongqing,” said Lim Ming Yan, president and group CEO of CapitaLand Limited, in a press release.

The Conservatory would house a rich array of amenities, including a themed observation decks, sky gardens, infinity pool, and a food a beverage zone.

The Raffles City Chongqing, which occupied 9.2 hectares of site area, brings together a 230,000-square metre shopping mall, a 160,000-square metre office space, 1400 residential apartments, and Ascott Raffles City Chongqing serviced residence and luxury hotel.

With the building of The Conservatory, Raffles City Chongqing is expected to hold the world record of having the highest sky bridge linking most number of towers.
