Tigerair inks aircraft maintenance deal with Airbus

The budget airline is expected to save US$20m.

Tiger Airways can finally say goodbye to its aircraft reliability woes for at least 10 years, as it signs a contract with French-based aerospace company Airbus for fleet technical management (FTM) and inventory technical management (ITM) for its A320ceo aircraft.

According to a statement by Tigerair, the decade-long contract would commence in early 2016, and will cover the planning and management of aircraft maintenance and reliability programs for Tigerair’s fleet.

Tigerair says the contract also encompasses spares pooling and support, as well as component repair and overhaul.

The statement says Tigerair will benefit from Airbus’ aircraft manufacturer’s experience and expertise, expecting to save about US$20m over the course of the deal.

“Tigerair currently operates a fleet of 22 A320ceo and 2 A319ceo aircraft. The airline also has 39 A320neo aircraft on firm order and another 11 on purchase options for future fleet renewal and growth,” the statement said.
