SIA's passenger load factor hit 9.1% in April

Its main airline’s skeletal network only includes routes to 14 metro cities.

SIA Group saw its passenger load factor (PLF) fall to 9.1% in April, whilst passenger carriage plummeted 99.6% YoY, an announcement revealed. As a result, overall passenger capacity was slashed by 96.3% over the same period.

SIA’s passenger capacity plunged 95.5% YoY in April, as the airline operates with a skeletal network of only 14 metro cities. Passenger carriage dropped 99.5%, resulting in a PLF of 9.3%.

Meanwhile, SilkAir's passenger carriage slid 99.8% against a 99.6% cut in capacity. Likewise, PLF crashed by 34.1%. These figures came on the back of the airline ceasing operations across the network, except for flights to Chongqing.

Lastly, Scoot’s passenger carriage plummetted 99.9% against a contraction in capacity of 98%, which led to a PLF of 5.9% in April. The airline had temporarily ceased operations to Southeast Asia, West Asia and Europe, whilst maintaining flights to Hong Kong and Perth.

Overall, cargo load factor (CLF) of SIA Group was 17.5 ppts higher as the capacity contraction
of 64.7% outpaced the 54.1% decline in cargo traffic (measured in freight tonne kilometres).

“Capacity contraction would have been much greater, save for the deployment of passenger aircraft on cargo-only flights. All regions registered improvements in CLF,” SIA said in the press release.
