SIA’s carried group passengers up by 1,216% YoY in April 

Loosened health rules for travellers boosted the carried passengers.

After the country relaxed its border control restrictions, the Singapore Airlines (SIA) Group’s carried group passengers soared by 1,216% year-on-year from 110,300 in April 2021 to 1,452,500 passengers in April 2022.

The group passenger capacity of SIA and Scoot, which are under the SIA Group, reached 57% of pre-pandemic levels in April 2022, which is above six percentage points compared to March 2022.

SIA Group also posted a passenger load factor for the month at 72.7%, the highest since the beginning of the global health crisis. It is an improvement of 18.2 percentage points compared on a monthly basis.

On cargo operations, it recorded a cargo load factor of 66.7%, which is down by 25.4 percentage points on a yearly basis. Cargo loads also declined by 2.1% as cargo demand was affected by the pandemic restrictions in China.

In April, SIA resumed flights to Davao and Cebu in the Philippines whilst Scoot returned to operations in Hat Yai, Thailand, and Kota Kinabalu, Malaysia. By the end of the month, the SIA Group’s passenger network covered 95 destinations including Singapore.

Air travel demand increased in April as Singapore scrapped its vaccinated travel lane arrangements from 1 April 2022, and opened its borders to fully vaccinated travellers without quarantine and COVID-19 tests.
