SIAEC-backed JADE joins forces with Singapore Polytechnic to build 1st APAC-based fire testing aviation lab

The lab is expected to be completed in 2025.

SIA Engineering-backed Jamco Aero Design & Engineering (JADE) and Singapore Polytechnic’s (SP) partners to build the Asia Pacific’s first fully certified flammability test aviation lab.

According to a memorandum of understanding inked between the two, the five-year partnership will see the entities establish the laboratory within the grounds of the polytechnic in Singapore.

The initiative, which is expected to be ready by 2025, will add new capabilities to strengthen Lion City’s position as an aviation hub in the region. 

Included in the functions of the lab are the testing and certification of materials used in aircraft cabin components, such as wall, light and ceiling panels, and door linings. These will be accomplished prior to being fitted in an aircraft, allowing for maintenance, repair, and overhaul companies to optimise logistical costs and turnaround times.  

“We are glad to be partnering with Singapore Polytechnic to value add to the regional aviation industry and make this niche flammability testing knowledge more accessible to the students. We hope that building the flammability laboratory as a state-of-the-art training and test centre will provide the students with a deeper insight into the aviation world. Establishing it as a database centre to support R&D developments will further strengthen the position of Singapore as a global aviation hub” said Dr. Desmond Ong, General Manager, JADE.

The two will also work together to provide relevant industry training, accreditation, final-year project collaborations and internships to SP students in order to enhance talent pipelines.
