SIA-CAE pilot training facility to start operations in August

It will provide programmes for Boeing 737, MAX, 747, 777, and 787 aircraft types.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) and CAE will launch the operations of their new joint venture, Singapore CAE Flight Training (SCFT), for pilot training in Singapore next month.

Plans for the 50-50 JV were announced in August last year following the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MOU).

According to an announcement, the JV will provide simulator and classroom training with an initial focus on Boeing aircraft types. It will operate out of the Singapore Airlines Traning Centre (STC) located near Changi Airport.

SIA will also transfer four of its full-flight Boeing aircraft simulators whilst new CAE-built training equipment and devices will be deployed by June 2019. The training facility will provide a full range of initial type rating and recurrent training programmes for Boeing 737, MAX, 747, 777, and 787 aircraft types.

In a separate announcement, SIA will add a fourth daily service to Tokyo’s Haneda Airport in 28 December 2018. This will increase SIA’s number of flights to six per day, up from the current five.

A Boeing 777-300ER aircraft will be operated, adding over 1,800 seats per week on the route.

SIA will also operate an Airbus A380, to Osaka daily from 28 October 2018 to 30 March 2019. This service will add over 720 seats per week on the Singapore-Osaka route.

SIA currently operates two daily services on the Singapore-Osaka route, both of which are currently operated by its new Boeing 787-10 aircraft.

With the new service to Haneda Airport, the SIA Group will operate a combined 105 weekly services between Singapore and Japan. The new flights are subject to regulatory approvals.
