SG, Japan join hands to implement green aviation initiatives

The countries will work together to materialise an Aviation Green Lane.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) and the Japan Civil Aviation Bureau (JCAB) will collaborate to make air travel between its respective countries greener.

 At the 2nd Singapore-Japan Dialogue on Aviation Collaboration, the two agencies agreed to facilitate the resumption of flights and city links; implement green aviation initiatives; foster a strong and positive safety culture; and leverage technology to overcome manpower shortage and raise productivity.

As part of its resumption of flights and city links, Singapore and Japan will restore direct flights between Singapore and Okinawa from November 2023

As of July 2023, the number of weekly flights between Singapore and Japan has recovered to over 65% of pre-COVID levels.

Amongst green aviation initiatives that the two countries plan to implement, include an Aviation Green Lane.

The lane will consist of three elements: airline operations, airport processes and air traffic management (ATM).

CAAS and JCAB will jointly implement green ATM for all flights between Singapore and Tokyo, which means they will facilitate “continuous climb and descent operations, and optimal cruising flight level assignment, which will save fuel, cut carbon emissions, and reduce flight times.”
