SG, 6 other countries join hands to support recovery of aviation sector

The countries will collaborate on eight initiatives

Singapore has joined hands with six other ASEAN countries --- Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand --- to support the recovery of the aviation sector.

In a joint statement, the seven counties said they will collaborate on eight initiatives and the first of which is to rebuild and restore air travel connectively and the civil aviation sector urgently.

To do such, the countries said they will strengthen air connectivity between Southeast Asia and other regions through instruments with ASEAN Dialogue Partners.

Involved countries will also facilitate the development of the ASEAN Single Aviation Market, and the mutual recognition of COVID-19 health certificates.

In relation to this goal, participating countries said they will also encourage the development of a common set of public health and safety measures in line with the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices.

Meanwhile, in a bid to facilitate cross border air travel and movement of people safely and efficiently, the transport, public health and immigration authorities of each county will continue to consult each other, and the eight countries will also seek a further exchange of information and best practices amongst themselves and the industry on contingency actions.

Best practices on sustainability will likewise be shared amongst the eight countries for regional and international cooperation, and these include environmentally sound technologies, the enhancement of human and institutional capacities, and the promotion of sustainable consumption and production patterns.
