Government mulls over building mega-passenger terminal in Changi East

It'll be a 1,080-ha project.

Speaking at the Committe of Supply debate on Wednesday, Minister of State Josephine Teo said that the government is exploring the possibility of building a mega-passenger terminal at a 1,080-hectare site in Changi East.

Aside from this, the government is also eyeing to build an airfreight centrem, an air logistics centre, and Maintenance hub to boost Singapore's air transport.

Teo also added that Changi’s Runway 3, currently used by the Republic of Singapore Air Force (RSAF), will be readied for civilian use as well to prepare for possible increase in demand for departure/ landing slots. Additionally, the new Terminal 4 will feature productivity innovations which will benefit both staff and passengers.

A committe has already been formed to spearhead a holistic plan on the development of Changi airport. 

"MOT, CAAS and the Land Transport Authority will study these issues further and engage the aviation community on the Concept Plan in the months ahead. We aim to finalise the Concept Plan by the end of this year," said Teo.
