European firms to build mobile air taxi port in Singapore

Volocopter and Skyports will hold public flight trials by H2 2019.

German air taxi manufacturer Volocopter and British vertiport owner and operator Skyports will build its first mobile air taxi port in Singapore that is expected to be completed by 2019, according to a joint press release.

The “Volo-Port” prototype is scheduled for public flight trials in the second half of the year, testing ground operations and services, including battery swaps and charging, maintenance, safety and security as well as customer services. It also features an electric take-off and landing (eVTOL) landing pads.

“Receiving the commercial license for air taxi aircraft is a question of time not possibility. We are thus focusing on shaping the necessary ecosystem around urban air mobility (UAM) including air traffic management, city regulation and the take-off and landing infrastructure,” said Alex Zosel, co-founder of Volocopter.

Brandlab, together with Graft Architects and Arup, won the Volocopter international tender to produce the Volo-Port design.
