Daily Briefing: Temasek to buy Israel-based cybersecurity firm; Two new nursing homes to open by 2020

Temasek will buy Israel-based cybersecurity firm Sygnia for an amount yet to be disclosed. A source with knowledge of the deal, who asked not to be named, told Reuters that Temasek is paying $343.49 (US$250m).

Sygnia, which has offices in Tel Aviv and New York, will maintain its operational independence while pursuing collaborations with Temasek and its portfolio companies.

Two new nursing homes operated by Vanguard Healthcare with a total capacity of 570 beds will launch in Bukit Batok and Bukit Panjang by end 2020, the Ministry of Health (MOH) revealed.

Catering to patients with dementia, wards will be designed in smaller clusters with communal facilities such as living rooms to encourage interaction among residents, said MOH.

Senja Care Home (SJCH), which is expected to open by the end of 2020, will offer 350 beds. The home will also be co-located with a polyclinic in a 12-storey Integrated Healthcare Facility, said MOH, adding that 60 day care places will be available at the care centre.

"This co-location allows synergies between the different healthcare services through sharing of community rehabilitation and physiotherapy services to support polyclinic patients and seniors as their care needs evolve," added MOH.

Singapore Airlines not offering an economy seat for its Singapore to New York non-stop flight, which is hailed as the world’s longest, hints that such journeys in the short to mid-term will be reserved for the wealthiest travelers, which will make the trip not a ‘norm’ for travels, head of tourism Sara Grady from market research firm GlobalData said.

Elaborating, she pointed out that it is currently around a third cheaper to travel from London to Perth with a stopover than it is to fly direct. “With a time saving of only a couple of hours in some cases, the benefits of a direct connection will only be justifiable to the business traveller or the elite holidaymaker,” she remarked.

The airline industry is already in a period of great change, GlobalData noted, with LCCs offering more and more and full service carriers (FSCs) either disaggregating their tickets to compete with LCCs, or conversely enhancing their premium offering – as with Qatar’s Qsuite business class bedroom launched this time last year.
