Changi Airport passenger movement quadruples to 4.63 million

The airport saw continued growth in its North America, Southwest Pacific, and Europe markets.

The passenger movements at Changi Airport increased by 306% to 4.63 million in March 2023, or 82% of its pre-pandemic traffic in 2019, whilst its aircraft movements, including landings and takeoffs, totalled 26,000, or about 81% of March 2019 levels.

The airport's total airfreight throughput remained stable at 152,000 tonnes for the month.

Meanwhile, the airport clocked 13 million passenger movements and 74,000 aircraft movements for the first quarter of the year, with Australia, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand being the top five traffic markets.

It also continued seeing strong growth in its key source markets, particularly in North America, Southwest Pacific, and Europe, and a significant recovery in passenger flows to and from Greater China, Changi Airport said.

However, total airfreight movements from January to March 2023 decreased 9% year-over-year to 417,000 tonnes due to a declining air cargo demand, especially in the first two months of the year, amidst global economic uncertainty and inflationary pressures.

"It is encouraging that passenger numbers at Changi Airport have crossed 80% of pre-Covid levels for the first time since the onset of the pandemic, representing a milestone in its recovery.
