December was the busiest month with 5.86 million passenger movements.

Singapore Changi Airport handled a record 62.2 million passengers in 2017, a 6% jump from last year. There were also 373,200 landings and take-offs, which grew 3.5%.

According to a press release, airfreight throughput also grew by 7.9%, crossing the 2-million tonne mark for the first time, to reach 2.13 million tonnes for the year.

December was the busiest month of the year, as Changi Airport recorded 5.86 million passenger movements, 32,960 aircraft movements, and 188,740 tonnes of airfreight throughput.

The busiest day of the year was 22 December 2017, a Friday, with 208,043 passengers passing through Changi’s terminals – a record for the airport.

In 2017, traffic across all regions saw positive growth, with Southeast and Northeast Asia contributing to about 70% of total traffic. Amongst Changi’s top 10 country markets, China and India led with a robust double-digit growth of 12% and 16%, respectively.

Amongst Changi Airport’s busiest routes, Kuala Lumpur replaced Jakarta as Changi’s top city link for 2017.

Amongst Changi Airport’s top 20 destinations, Guangzhou was the fastest growing with a 15% increase, whilst Brisbane, Penang, and Phuket recorded growth of at least 6%.

Growth was observed for airfreight throughput across imports at 8%, exports at 14%, and transshipments at 4%. The top five country markets for airfreight were China, Australia, Hong Kong, the United States and India.

During the year, the airport added three new airlines, namely, Hebei Airlines, Norwegian, and US-Bangla Airlines, to its lineup of over 100 airlines.

Ten new passenger city links were also established, to China (Harbin, Shijiazhuang, Yantai), Greece (Athens), India (Madurai), Japan (Hiroshima, Okinawa), Malaysia (Bintulu), Sweden (Stockholm) and USA (Honolulu).

A NOTE FROM SINGAPORE BUSINESS REVIEW

You're the reader we write for. You're also the person our partners want to reach.

If that sentence describes you — a founder, a C-suite, someone whose attention companies pay good money for — then you already understand why SBR works. We've spent twenty years earning the trust of readers exactly like you. Which is exactly what makes this an interesting place for your company to show up, too.

The ways it can show up are broader than most people assume — thought leadership articles, sponsored content, industry summits across Southeast Asia, regional awards programmes, podcasts, and media placements in print and digital. The right fit depends on what you're trying to do, which is why we'd rather start with a conversation than send a rate card.

If your company has something this audience should know about, we'd like to hear what you're working on.

No rate cards until we understand the brief. It's a better use of everyone's time.
