CAAS inks milestone aviation maintenance agreement with FAA

It will reduce compliance costs for airlines.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore (CAAS) has signed a milestone Maintenance Implementation Procedures (MIP) agreement with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

The agreement is expected to eliminate duplication of inspections and audits on aircraft maintenance organisations in Singapore and the US, thus resulting in “significantly” reduced regulatory burdens and compliance costs for the aviation industry.

The MIP is the second agreement signed under the US-Singapore Bilateral Safety Agreement (BASA), which was signed in 2004. The first deal under the BASA was the Implementation Procedures for Airworthiness (IPA) agreement, which was also signed in 2004 and further enhanced in 2007.

“This landmark agreement with the Civil Aviation Authority of Singapore will strengthen aviation safety while reducing the cost of inspections for aircraft repair work,” said FAA Administrator Michael Huerta.

The MIP was inked on the sidelines of the Singapore Airshow.
