Amazon, government to explore space industry together

The Statement of Strategic Intent is the first of its kind for Amazon Web Services in Asia.

Amazon Web Services (AWS) has signed a Statement of Strategic Intent with the Singapore government's Office for Space Technology and Industry (OTSin).

The partnership is directed towards growing the Singapore space and technology ecosystem. 

Max Peterson, Vice President of Worldwide Public Sector, AWS, and David Tan, Executive Director, OSTIn, signed the statement in a virtual ceremony. 

Through this partnership, AWS will support OSTin through providing resources to businesses with AWS credits, educating and training talent, and enabling the development of new products in the space industry. More details are expected to be shared by early 2022. 

“This collaboration with AWS will support the development of Singapore to become a regional hub for space innovation and play a larger role in the global space industry. We look forward to deepening the collaboration with AWS through developing specific programs to make space technologies accessible, to develop space talent for Singapore, and foster collaborations within the space industry locally, regionally, and globally,” said Tan. 

“By uniting the private and public sectors through space-cloud technologies, AWS will work with OSTIn to enable individuals and organisations to build on the cloud and develop industry-focused solutions that address space challenges or issues citizens face,” stated Clint Crosier, Director, AWS Aerospace and Satellite. 

This is one of several local partnerships driving space innovation also undergone by AWS, including EOfactory, Kacific Broadband Satellites Group, and the Singapore Space & Technology Ltd.
