6 biggest feats of ST Engineering's aerospace arm so far

China expansion is underway.

According to DBS, through a series of tie ups and acquisitions, ST Aerospace is enhancing its capabilities to offer higher value-added services and widen its suite of services to global clients. Capacity expansion in Guangzhou ready by late 2013 and an engine workshop in Xiamen will tap on opportunities in China. 

DBS noted some of the key initiatives undertaken by ST Aerospace:

1) Expanding hangar capacity in Changi and Guangzhou; 2) Completed 35% investment in EADS Efw – commenced A330 P2F engineering development phase; 3) Acquired DRB Aviation and Volant Aerospace to build capabilities in cabin retrofitting;

4) Co-developed new long-haul economy seat with Japanese aircraft seat manufacturer Tenryu Aero Component; 5) Expanded its engine wash business with acquisition of EcoServices; 6) Formed JV with Marubeni to offer narrow-body aircraft engine leasing solutions.

The most significant acquisition is its 35% stake in EADS EFW costing S$110m which will serve as ST Aerospace’s European MRO centre, and as a springboard to develop the A330 Passenger to Freighter capability with Airbus. This will add to its track record of PTF capabilities – MD11, B767-300, and B757-200.
