Singapore Airlines to increase flight frequency in Northern Summer schedule

SIA seeks approval to launch its service in Sao Paolo as it increase frequency of service in Singapore and points in North Asia, West Asia and Europe.

Singapore Airlines will increase services across parts of its global network during the Northern Summer period (27 March 2011 - 29 October 2011) in response to continued growth in demand.

Airbus A380 services will be extended to Los Angeles, with SQ12/11 operated by the superjumbo on the Singapore-Tokyo Narita-Los Angeles route from 27 March 2011. The route is currently served with Boeing 747-400 aircraft. Los Angeles will be the eighth destination that the A380 will serve from Singapore, according to a SIA report.

As previously announced, SIA also plans to launch a new service, SQ68/67, to Sao Paulo in Brazil via Barcelona in Spain during the Northern Summer period. Sao Paulo will be the Airline’s first South American destination. The new service is subject to Brazilian regulatory approval.

Frequency will also be increased on select services between Singapore and points in North Asia, West Asia and Europe.

Four weekly flights will be added to the Singapore-Taipei route, bringing the total number of weekly frequencies to 18. The additional flights will operate as SQ880/881, departing Singapore at 0130hrs and arriving in Taipei at 0615hrs. The return flight will depart Taipei at 0730hrs and arrive in Singapore at 1155hrs. With the new services, the route will be served with morning, afternoon and evening flights.

Services between Singapore and Male in the Maldives will also be increased, with SQ462/461 operating three times per week. The new daytime flight will depart Singapore at 0950hrs and arrive in Male at 1115hrs, while the return flight will depart Male at 1230hrs and arrive in Singapore at 2015hrs. In addition to the existing daily flights that operate at night, flight frequency will increase to ten per week.

In Japan, Osaka services will increase to twice-daily from ten times per week, with four more flights.
Flights between Singapore and Athens, as well as those between Singapore and Rome, will operate three times per week from end-June 2011 to October 2011, up from the current two times.
