SIA rolls out service for pharmaceutical cargo

It will secure the cargo through thermal blankets that provide crucial insulation.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) launched THRUCOOL which will transport high-value, time-sensitive, and temperature controlled pharmaceutical cargo, an announcement revealed.

The new cargo scheme will secure pharmaceutical and healthcare cargo during air journey through priority uplift and handling, quick ramp air transfers at airports, cold room facilities, and thermal blankets and covers to provide crucial insulation.

SIA will also let customers to opt for shipments in temperature-controlled containers and to track their cargo’s location during shipping.

“We are acutely aware of the life-saving role these shipments play in societies across the world and THRUCOOL is our assurance that our customers’ cargo will receive the best care not only on our flights but also on the ground during transit,” SIA senior vice president for cargo Chin Yau Seng said.

The firm has tapped terminal operators SATS, Cargologic, and Qantas Freight to launch a ‘quality corridor’ along the Zurich-Singapore Sydney route as an initial offering. The quality corridor will reduce the potential for product loss attributed to handling and environmental factors such as temperature excursions during carriage.
