Airphil Express and Berjaya Air fly to Singapore

Airphil Express will start operating 14 weekly flights on October 27, while Berjaya Air will start 10 weekly flights on November 1, according to the Changi Airport Group.

In a statement, the company said Airphil Express and Berjaya Air are the sixth and seventh new airline to commence operations to Changi this year.

Singapore is Airphil’s first international destination. Starting 27 October 2010, Airphil will operate 14 weekly flights between Singapore and Manila from Changi’s Terminal 2. From 1 December 2010, it will mount 14 weekly flights between Singapore and Cebu. Airphil will join five other carriers currently flying to the Philippines.

From 1 November 2010, Berjaya will operate scheduled flights at the Budget Terminal1. The services will start with ten flights a week to Tioman in Malaysia, operating on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

From March 2011 after the monsoon season, the Malaysian carrier will increase frequencies to 28 weekly flights, 14 each to the resort islands of Tioman and Redang. Both islands are new links for Changi.

Mr Lim Ching Kiat, Changi Airport Group Director for Market Development, said they are delighted to welcome these two new carriers to Changi’s network. Their services will improve Changi’s connectivity and accessibility to their destinations.”

Mr Lim added, “Airphil’s operations will meet growing demand for this sector. We have seen strong growth in traffic to the Philippines, with a 21% growth in January to August 2010 compared to the same period in 2009. For Berjaya, their scheduled flights from the Budget Terminal will enhance the travel experience for its passengers as they will enjoy the ease and convenience of connecting between flights as well as the use of Changi’s facilities and amenities.”

With Airphil and Berjaya’s operations, Changi will serve 98 airlines operating more than 5,000 weekly scheduled flights connecting Singapore to over 200 cities in 60 countries and territories.
