SIA to start SilkAir integration and aircraft operation

SilkAir routes will be transferred to SIA, beginning with Phuket flights.

Singapore Airlines (SIA) will start operating Boeing 737-800 NG aircraft on flights to Phuket beginning 4 March 2021, as part of SilkAir’s integration into SIA.

Ending SilkAir’s 30-year stint as a separate, regional arm of SIA, the integration followed a merger announced back in 2018.

More SilkAir routes will be transferred as nine B737-800 NG aircraft will join the SIA fleet, including flights to Bandar Seri Begawan from 1 March onwards. According to SIA, the B737-800 NG will have 12 business and 10 economy class seats.

“The introduction of the SIA 737-800 NG will bring about a more comfortable and seamless travel experience for customers on our regional routes,” SIA CEO Goh Choon Phong said. “Integrating SilkAir with SIA also allows us to be nimble and flexible in aircraft deployment, and supports our fleet and network growth strategy.”

The full integration of SilkAir into the parent airline is slated to be completed in FY 2021/22.
