Live pig exports to Pulau Buluan likely to be suspended for another year: SFA

The government halted its production and import of live pigs from Pulau Bulan in April 2022.

It will likely take about a year before Singapore can resume the production and export of live pigs from Pulau Buluan, Indonesia, the Singapore Food Agency (SFA) said.

In a Facebook post, the SFA said it is still "assessing the situation" in Pulau Buluan.

In April 2022, Singapore halted the import of live pigs from Pulau Bulan, Indonesia, due to the detection of African Swine Fever (ASF) in pig carcasses from a consignment of pigs.

Meanwhile, SFA said it would continue to work with Singapore's livestock industry to diversify its import sources and strengthen its food resilience.

The agency also encouraged the food industry "to remain resilient by diversifying their supply sources and adopting Business Continuity Plans" and consumers to choose alternatives such as frozen and chilled pork or other protein options.
